Comrade Alex Presents

"Sixty-Four of the Fifty Greatest Films Since the Revolution"

Greetings comrades, today I bring you something that has been on my "to do list" for quite some time now. I bring to you a collection of 64 of my favorite films. I could have gone on and on with this list ad infinity, but I had to stop somewhere. Please be aware I did not take the time to sit down and try to list everything about these films such as the director, actors, cinematographers etc. I will mention them as I feel necessary. I did however include a handy link to the internet movie database site for each film, so feel free to click the link and find out more about each movie.

I can make two promises from this list:

1) I was totally honest. Most people compiling a "greatest of" list may be tempted to inundate it with all kinds of "art house" pictures. I have a real beef with these people because they choose what is impressive to like rather that what is really good. I’m sure you know these people, sitting around in black turtle necks and berets sipping espresso and discussing the artistic ramifications of Fellini’s 8 ½ (incidentally I hate Fellini’s 8 1/2) and the avant-garde revolution. I’m not saying you won’t find a hoity-toity foreign film on the list because there are some, but they are on here, because of their merit as a film and not because it sounds smart to say you like it. I am tired of this film for art’s sake crap that is circulating right now in the industry. To these Y Tu Mama Tabien – Sex and Lucia philistines I have but one comment: Film used to be about telling a story. It used to be about creating a window into someone’s life and it has been twisted into creating something so "artistic" and "daring" that it has lost all honesty in the process. So, here is a list of films that embody the spirit of great movie making and not the need to be the most artistic kid on the block – besides we all know you will sell out anyway after your big art house picture gets some press.

2) These are in no particular order what-so-ever. They are simply organized as they came out of my brain.

At any rate, that is a long way of saying that I hope you enjoy the list. Remember any comments, complaints or corrections can be directed at comradealex@hotmail.com

Notes from Capitalist Sid: Comrade Alex was kind enough to include direct links to the individual film titles in the Internet Movie Data Base.  However, I, in stunning Capitalist efficiency, will not invest the time necessary to transfer them to the following pages.  I will direct you to the Internet Movie Database, being the Capitalists you are (thus not requiring the State to lead you like sheep to the pasture) you are welcome to explorer the film titles on your own.

Bonus fun from Sid - guess the names of the twelve famous directors shown at the top of this page.  The answers appear at the end of Comrade Alex's list.  Here's a hint - all of them have directed at least one film on Comrade Alex's list.
