March 29, 2005 (12:27 am) I feel like I'm pulling an all-nighter.  It's 12:30 in the morning, and I have to get up at 4:45 am to get ready for a 7:10 am flight.  Oh, I also haven't packed for a week-long trip.  I'm screwed.  I've posted a new Comrade Alex top ten list in the News section, this one really pushes the boundaries of listing.  Since I'm out of town until next Tuesday, I'm afraid there won't be any Lame Web Page updates until then.  Comrade Alex and I are working on a new polytheistic religion that just might save the world, we'll see how that turns out next week.

March 27, 2005 (9:27 pm) Lisa and I have had a heck of a weekend.  We were both off Friday, I went into work in the morning.  Lisa's aunt and cousins were in town, she met up with them Friday morning and the I joined the bunch for a movie at the new Alamo Drafthouse south location.  We saw Ms. Congeniality Two - not good, not good at all.  I liked Sandra Bullock and Regina King together, the chemistry was good.  The writing was where this one failed.  I promise a full review, I'm in a movie reviewing mood.  After the film went the hotel where Kathy, Chris, and the kids were staying and we all hung out by the pool.  The weather was beautiful, before it turned on us.  We were hit by what had to be the hardest rain I've seen in all my days in Texas.  Water in the parking lot was half way up the tires of the cars, and the sidewalk between the buildings was a river.  And then came the hail.  Big hail, like a five cent gumball.  Mr. Nakimoto was pummeled, as was Chris' car.

Saturday we had breakfast at the Bakehouse, later the group came over to our place to watch "The Incredibles".  The movie was good the second time, and the bonus material was fun.  Then we all headed to UT to go bowling and play some pool.  None of the kids had played before, however after a little bit of guidance from Lisa they were sinking balls all over the place.  Bowling was a lot of fun.  I whooped them all.  Then we had dinner at Serranos downtown.  Continuing our "less meat" initiative Lisa and I had spinach enchiladas.  Then we headed home.

Today we met the group at the hotel for breakfast and said our goodbyes.  Then Lisa and I made a rare spontaneous decision and drove out to Pedernales State Park.  We figured with all of the rains it would be flowing nicely, and Lisa had never been.  It was great.  The morning started off pretty chilly, thankfully we had some long sleeve shirts in the truck from another time.  The hike down to the falls is pretty steep and it's over rock, and if there is one thing Lisa does not do it's hike over rock.  Turns out, she did great.  I kept egging her on "just a little further" and "I think it flattens out right over that rock".  We ended up walking a long way and we're both pretty sore.  Here's a picture:

Afterwards, we were really hungry so we headed west to Johnson City in search of some home cooking.  Wouldn't you know it, Easter Sunday in small town Texas and everything's closed.  So we headed back to Austin.  Mr. Nakimoto performed perfectly up and down the hills as always ("I only wish to serve").  We got cleaned up and went to the Alamo (south location, our new favorite) where they were showing all of the Academy Award nominated short live action and animated films.  Some were really, really good.  Overall it was great to see these films that so few people get to see.  And in the spirit of "less meat" Lisa had a spinach and artichoke pizza and I a spinach salad.  Which brings us to now, at home, trying to prepare mentally for the week ahead.  Since I'm off to Washington DC for my biggest trade show of the year on Tuesday, I'm sure I'll be a basket case tomorrow.  For now, it's bedtime.

March 24, 2005 (8:03 pm)  I've never done three updates in a day before.  A new Lame Web Page first.  Lisa's family is in town for the long weekend, she met them for dinner.  I'm going to work a little tomorrow morning and then we'll all get together for lunch and come up with something fun to do.  In the meantime, a little news:

There is an article in the LA Times today talking about a group of US draft dodgers who fled to Canada to avoid Vietnam. Specifically to Nelson, Canada. A guy named Romano moved there in 2001 and was "heartbroken" when the US invaded Iraq. He came up with the idea of building a monument to honor Vietnam-era war resisters. When news of the monument reached the US the Veterans of Foreign Wars organization whined to President Bush to persuade Canadian Prime Minister Paul Martin to put an end to the project. Here's a sample of a message posted to the town of Nelson's community message board:

Name: Charles A. Rahn
Location: Jacksonville, Fl
Comments: I hope you can run those liberals out of town, the ones that want to build a war resistor memorial. They should all be lined up and shot at sunrise.
Date: October 13, 2004

Before we continue, let's take a trip to Merriam-Webster online:

Main Entry: re·sis·tor
Pronunciation: ri-'zis-t&r
Function: noun
: a device that has electrical resistance and that is used in an electric circuit for protection, operation, or current control

Perhaps Charles A. Rahn of Jacksonville Florida thought the monument was going be a giant resistor and he was upset because he never could figure out the colored bands on those things. Perhaps he meant "resisters". Either way, Charles A. Rahn is certified by the Lame Web Page as an "Official Lame Web Page Idiot". Shoot people for expressing their views, because they differ from those of Charles A. Rahn. You've got to love the fact that Bush will meddle in other country's affairs, not matter how serious or silly the issue. You really can't blame Paul Martin from bowing to the pressure, imagine how easy it would be to invade Canada. And Bush would be just the person to do it. Thankfully Bush wasn't President during the Cuban missal crisis. His "I'm no good at diplomacy so I'll just shoot at them" philosophy would have gotten us all evaporated. Canada's in big trouble if we develop a car that runs on maple syrup.

Is it my imagination or is the Lame Blog becoming a bit too serious? I'll work on the dedicated top ten list section, this is the perfect opportunity to debut a splendid new top ten from Comrade Alex. Top ten reasons Comrade Alex is irritated. Comrade Alex and I have lunch together at least once a week to compare and contrast our ideological differences. We also find humor in our mutual distain for the idiotic, and we seem to be surrounded by it. There seems to be more at the pizza place than the Chinese place, go figure. Anyway, I can certainly attest to the fact the Comrade Alex is in fact quite irritated. I'll be extremely surprised if he can narrow it down to ten.

March 24, 2005 (12:40 pm) I've posted Lisa's top ten list, ironically within the time allowed by the "Lisa 24 Hour Guarantee".

March 24, 2005 (2:46 am) Everyone wish Alex a happy birthday!  Of course, it was yesterday, but still. I just woke up from a bad dream.  I was on an expedition to Mars.  Me and one other person were on the red planet, and we got caught in a sand storm.  We had a thin but amazingly strong tent but we had to get out and make sure the launch vehicle didn't blow over.  It was very small and light.  I remember reporting stats about the wind speed and temperature into a radio transmitter.  It was very loud, so I was screaming.  Right before I woke up, we were approached by on of the Mars rovers, opportunity.  Seriously, because I remember my partner looking out into the distance and saying "what the hell is that", I looked through by binoculars and sure enough it had "opportunity" stenciled on the front.  Problem was, it filled me with a terrible sense of impending doom and that's why I woke up.  Before that, I had a dream I was at the airport in Las Vegas trying to get from one side to the other so I could take a elevator to Rockefeller Center in New York to look at an apartment.  I got caught up in a huge line of people catching a flight to go skiing at Lake Tahoe.  I got swept up on to the plane with all of these idiots carrying skis on the plane.

I'm so proud of Lisa, she submitted her very first top ten list today.  Top Ten Reasons Sid Doesn't Uphold the Lisa 24 Hour Guarantee.  As I received the email when I got home from work technically if I don't post it right now I will miss the deadline.  Since it's now 3am, I don't see that happening.

March 22, 2005 (10:35 pm) Only one more day until Alex's birthday!  I can't remember the last time we didn't see Alex on or near her birthday.  This is the point where Lisa says "Hey, dumb %$# - we didn't see her last year".  But I think we did.  I live in a happy place, in my head.

I have two challenges for Comrade Alex - top ten reasons Comrade Alex is irritated (he is) and the top ten reasons Comrade Alex wants to move to Canada.  If you have a request for a top ten email, send an email to comradealex@sidandlisa.net.  Do it soon, Comrade Alex is whining about getting a lot of spam so I might have to cut the email address.  Speaking of Alex moving to Canada, there was a nice AP article with the headline "Canadians Face Long Waits for Health Care" by Beth Duff "Beer"-Brown.  I'll point out some of the highlights.  I wonder how much of an AP article I can site with reference to the author.  I guess if I officially declare the Lame Web Page an educational, non-commercial tool for personal use only I'll be just fine.  On with the quotes from the article: A letter from the Moncton Hospital to a New Brunswick heart patient in need of an electrocardiogram said the appointment would be in three months.  The average Canadian family pays about 48 percent of its income in taxes each year, partly to fund the health care system. Rates vary from province to province, but Ontario, the most populous, spends roughly 40 percent of every tax dollar on health care, according to the Canadian Taxpayers Federation. The average wait for surgical or specialist treatment is nearly 18 weeks, up from 9.3 weeks in 1993, according to the Fraser Institute, a right-wing public policy think tank in Vancouver. A Fraser study last year said the average wait for an orthopedic surgeon was more than nine months.   So there Comrade, have fun, just don't get sick.

A lot of people are up in arms about Congress convening to discuss the Terri Schiavo case, to use the determination of jurisdiction to possibly throw the case to a 20th court (or however many lower courts have already ruled).  Complaints that Congress shouldn't meddle in what boils down to a family and unfortunately a judicial affair.  I tend to agree, this from someone who thinks the feeding tube should be re-inserted. So to everyone complaining, I ask you - where the heck were you last week when Congress drilled major league baseball stars about steroid use.  Talk about wasting tax dollars on an issue that should be handled outside of Government, there it is.  When we've achieved world peace (or at least killed everyone who has a culture different from ours), fed all of the people, cured disease, saved the environment, populated Mars (right, George?), and annexed Canada then we can move on to legislating baseball.

Finally, Lisa wanted me to mention we saw two SXSW films Saturday, "Stage Door", a documentary about a performing arts camp in the Catskills, and "Dead Birds", a horror film starring Henry Thomas (E.T.) and Patrick Fugit (Bless You).  Do not see Dead Birds under any circumstances.  Worst horror film I've seen.  I notice it's out on DVD.  Look at the stills on the back cover.  That should be enough to do it.

And even more final (unless Congress intervenes) I got an amazing piece of salmon at Central Market for dinner tomorrow.  Tasmanian.  Fresh.  Excellent fish.  I'll serve it with a side of sautéed spinach and garlic, and vegetable ratatouille (doesn't that sound silly) over fusilli.

March 21, 2005 (11:15 pm) I'm tired.  I posted an excellent review of the film "Ray", submitted by Charles and Cecelia Roe.  Check it out in the movies section.

March 20, 2005 (12:21 am) Lisa and I had a great day.  I'll go into details tomorrow.  In the meantime, chew on this.  A bill was approved that allows a judge to issue a subpoena so police may forcibly take your blood sample.  Sit back and enjoy watching more of your civil liberties melt away.  On an idiotic note, a State Rep from Houston (Al Edwards I believe) has introduced a bill that would cut funding to schools in cases where the cheerleaders "bump and grind" a little too much during routines.  Mr. Edwards seems to think the parents, school boards, teachers, and principals are all too stupid to decide what is and is not appropriate for cheerleading, so the State needs to step in and save everyone.  Tax dollars at work, managed by your public servant Al Edwards.  Incidentally, I hear Mr. Edwards has personally asked to be on the enforcement team.

Now that I have that off my chest on to bed.  More tomorrow, promise.

March 18, 2005 (5:16 pm) I've moved the 2004 blog to a separate page, linked at the bottom of this one.  That should free up some much needed space for news and information.  Today, doctors in Florida removed Terri Schiavo's feeding tube, which will lead to her death in about two weeks.  She will starve to death.  House Majority Leader Tom DeLay, a Republican from Texas, told reporters in Washington earlier Friday that removal of the tube amounted to "barbarism."  Funny coming from someone who supports the death penalty in the State that leads them all.  I find that a bit of a contradiction.  Official Lame Web Page position - repeal the death penalty immediately.  I'm sure that will have a great effect on the current administration.

My Mom says I look like Ted Kaczynski, I see no resemblance.

March 17, 2005 (10:02 pm) More SXSW fun as Lisa and I screened* the Universe premier of "Max and Grace" and very funny film about wanting to die.  Starring Natasha Lyonne, David Krumholtz, and Tim Blake Nelson.  Very much review worthy, if it gets picked up* make sure and rent or see it.  Written and directed by Michael Parness.  This was the first full day of the music portion of SXSW, so downtown was full of drunken green-clad music promoter and groupie wannabees.  So much fun.  We'll see something tomorrow night or perhaps check out a variety of Seattle bands with Comrade Alex and Comradette Stacey, provided they don't flake out.  Hopefully they're at Jef's house taking joy rides in his truck.  That was the plan anyway.

As you know, there is a link on the Lame Web Page for "links".  Even has it's own square on the pictunator (I'll take Whoopie to block) but it's never, ever been updated.  As of today that still holds true.  So in the meantime here's a fun link to check out submitted by Official Lame Web Page linkmeister Bill: Guess that candy bar.  Hours upon hours of fun.

*Movie biz speak.  Consult official Lame Web Page movie producer Alex for more information.

March 15, 2005 (10:51 pm) Comrade Alex continues his hot streak with yet another top ten.  I have a topic I'd like his collaboration on, I'll present that to him tomorrow.  Lisa is also working on what looks to be a very funny top ten.  This has become a regular top ten factory.

Lisa and I were fortunate enough to participate in a little SXSW* film fun, thanks to Charles and Cecelia.  We saw "City of Lost Souls" at the Alamo Drafthouse downtown, I'll write more on that tomorrow.

*South by Southwest music and film festival, for those of you living under rocks.

March 13, 2005 (10:53 pm) Check out the news for today for another top ten list from Alex and some pictures from our day.  On our way back from ZIlker we stopped of at the new south Alamo Drafthouse and saw "Be Cool".  More on that later.

March 9, 2005 (10:31) Another day at work.  Comrade Alex and I had had the fever, and only think helps this fever - Chinese food.  We entertained the waitress and enjoyed sesame chicken.  We normally go to lunch on Friday but today the fever just got to be too much.  Lisa and I went to dinner with my aunt and uncle who is in town for the IEEE conference.  We went to Threadgills, it had been a while.  I thought it was pretty good, I got the five vegetable plate and a slice of buttermilk pie for desert.  It wasn't the Cattleman's hotel in Bryan, but it was good.  Then Lisa and I went to Sonic and listened to Clark Howard for a while, now we're home.

March 8, 2005 (7:44 pm) An early update just in case I don't feel like doing anything later.  Comrade Alex presents an outstanding new top ten list, forging into territory not yet explored in the history of top ten list.  That's a long history, I believe Moses even wrote one.  Although you can't display his in a public place, too controversial.  I'd like to propose we place a monument to a Comrade Alex top ten at the Texas State Capital.  Comrade, this smacks of a challenge.  Top Ten Commandments to be displayed at the Texas State Capital.  As the Capital is located right here in Austin, we can drop by and place the giant stone monument after work.  Afterwards, lattes at Starbucks!

March 7, 2005 (11:34 pm) This will be quick - Uncle Sid surges ahead in the battle of ideologies played out on the chess board.

March 2, 2005 (11:45 pm) The Lame winter 2004 - 2005 pictures seem to be working.  If you use Mozilla you might need a refresh.  Lisa and I spent the evening watching TV (Mythbusters and World Poker Tour for me) and cleaning.  Tomorrow Charles, Cecelia, and Olivia are coming over to eat and watch the critically acclaimed film "Ray".  Perhaps a review will come of it.  Speaking of contributions, they are always welcome.  I've updated the "News" section with a tribute to Hunter S. Thompson by Charles.  Comrade Alex and Azner submitted some great top ten lists, I plan to open a top ten list section soon.  I'll post at least one tomorrow.

March 1, 2005 (11:56 pm) Dramatic new pictures!  I also notice Charles has a few updates of his own, make sure and check him out.  I'm going to AVG loose on the Lame Web Page computer as I sleep tonight, we'll see if it turns up anything!

February 27, 2005 (11:35 pm) Lisa and I enjoyed a quiet evening at home watching the Oscars.  We were glad to see "Million Dollar Baby" win so many awards and really glad to see Charlie Kaufman finally win one.  We went on another long walk today, this time to Katz's for lunch.  Today was absolutely perfect outside.  We then walked to Lisa's work to get something and then we took the bus home.  Yesterday I went to work, talked with Comrades Alex and Stacy about possibly getting together but that never panned out.  Lisa and I went to Castle Hill for the first time Saturday night, thanks to the generosity of Charles and Cecelia.  The food extremely good, the atmosphere was nice, not necessarily cozy, as to be expected in a restaurant of that quality.  Lisa had spinach lasagna and a spinach salad, I had a grilled beef tenderloin and a field greens salad.  The steak was really tasty, the meat tender.  Mine came with mashed (or whipped, I suppose) potatoes, green beans, and grilled onions.  We might finally have a place to replace Ray's as our special occasion restaurant.  It's late again, so no more updating tonight.  I am close to posting a gaggle of random pictures from this winter, and I have a special contribution from Charles, a tribute to Hunter S. Thompson.

February 23, 2005 (11:45 pm) Lisa and I finally ate a meal at home, tuna with spinach and garlic and cous-cous.  I cut up vegetables to make stew tomorrow, stew weather is coming.  We watched "Mythbusters" and then Lisa went to bed.  I worked on a Flash project and made some great headway.  I did not, however, work on the Lame Web Page.  I will soon, I have some fun pictures to post.

February 21, 2005 (11:32 pm) Lisa and I had a great weekend.  We spent Saturday afternoon with Charles, Cecelia, and Olivia and their friends from Houston Greg and Grace at Alta Vista recording to record some of Charles' children's stories.  We also met Martin and his girlfriend Rene.  That was my first time in a recording studio, kudos to Tom the owner for creating a great space.  Lisa read "The Woman Who Works in the Wax Museum" and she nailed it on one take.  I'll resurrect the Lame MP3 player with new stuff from Charles soon.  He's been very prolific as of late.  Saturday night we went to eat at a Tex-Mex restaurant on South Lamar, it was average.

Sunday morning we met the above mentioned group at Kirby Lane for breakfast.  We hadn't been there in years, it was very good.  We said goodbye to Greg and Grace and Charles, Cecelia, and Olivia and went for a walk, as we were on foot (Kirby's 15 minutes from us).  We walked and walked and walked all the way to the Dobie mall, in hopes of catching a good movie.  Nothing was playing so we enjoyed a few video games.  Lisa beat me handily at "Street Fighter" and I got a little revenge at air hockey.  We took the bus from there down to Congress and Ben White and walked home from there.

I developed a massive headache last night, I took a bunch of Motrin and managed to sleep.  I was so tired this morning and my head still hurt so I called in sick.  That was a bad idea.  Only once have I been glad I called in sick, when I was really, really sick.  I spent today in and out of a Super Tylenol induced coma with a President's Day marathon of "American Chopper" on the TV.  I went in at 4:00 for a sales meeting.  The headache is pretty much gone, although it feels like it's trying to come back.  Lisa and I went to Thai Kitchen and is was even more yummy than usual.  I had Phat Thai and Lisa had some dish we'll simply call "#3 Noodle Dish".  We then went for a pretty good walk and now we're back here.  We're both behind at work (gee, I wonder if staying home sick has something to do with it) so our plan is to get up early tomorrow and attack the day, and then go to the store, and actually eat a meal at home.  I might even shower and shave.  We'll see how that goes.

I have a bunch of pictures from Christmas to the present that I did work on this evening, I should have them finished by tomorrow.  I also owe Comrade Alex a move in our chess game, and he's working on another top ten list, which is great as those seem to be a crowd favorite.

February 17, 2005 (11:53 pm) Finally, Comrade Alex returns from his Siberian exile to make his move in the capitalist vs. communist chess match in the red corner.  Well done Comrade.  Expect a counter move soon.

February 17, 2005 (12:15 am) Comrade Alex presents not one but two hilarious new top ten lists, as always you can find these in the news section.

February 14, 2005 (11:53 pm) Happy Valentine's Day!  Lisa and I had a lovely evening at Katz's Deli where we had steak (yes, steak at a deli), garlic mashed potatoes, broiled tomatoes (I ate Lisa's, Lisa does not eat cooked fruit), a one pound slice of cheesecake, and a bottle of champagne.  We sat outside for a while and enjoyed the tepid weather.

I have about 600 pictures and a new Comrade Alex top ten to post, and a new chess move from the aforementioned Comrade, which I will post tomorrow.  In the meantime, enjoy Lisa's splendid review of "Million Dollar Baby" as we try to post review for all of the best picture academy award nominees.  Problem is, neither of us wants to see The Aviator or Finding Neverland.  We'll see.  I'm off to bed.

February 13, 2005 (11:33 pm) Where does the day go?  Lisa wrote an outstanding review of "Million Dollar Baby", which I'll post tomorrow.

February 11, 2005 (12:33 am) Just a quick update of the News, Jef Ray presents some musings on his recent road trip to Florida.  Big thanks to Jef for the contribution.  I also prepared Winter 2005 pictures for posting, as soon as I finish the descriptions I'll have them up.  Lisa and I went to the Bakehouse for dinner.  The food at the Bakehouse is mediocre at best, but you really can't beat the atmosphere.  Lisa and I like to hunker down in one of their large booths and try and to improve our geography skills with one of the many globes around the restaurant.  The best part part is the service, so friendly you often get to learn more about your waitperson than you want to know.  For example, our waitperson apologized for the delay in taking our order, this was her first time working at night by herself.  Oh, and she was getting over a cold but still had some bronchitis.  Just what you want to hear.  Off to bed I'm tired.  Yes Mother, I did just write that I'm tired but it's 12:39 am so I expect it's quite normal.

February 10, 2005 (12:26 pm) Lisa and I begin our week as a Neilsen TV Family.  Watch for increased ratings of Discovery channel shows.

February 6, 2005 (10:53 pm) Lisa and I went to Houston this weekend to celebrate her Aunt Kathy's big 60th birthday.  We had a really good time.  Lisa did her thing by getting a limo to take all ten of us to Kemah for some food and Mardi Gras fun.  They host a yacht parade with wildy decorated yachts throwing beads to those of us on the boardwalk.  We all made out pretty well.  Lisa found a great rate at the Hilton by Rice University, the room was larger than our condo, seriously.  We got up this morning for a walk around the nice residential area around the hotel, then headed home.  I watched the first half of the Super Bowl and we watched Paul McCartney, and what can I say- I really enjoyed it.  He still puts on a good show.  Since the game was a little lackluster, we went to Sonic and say and listened to the radio for a while.  We caught three shows: "Beyond the Beltway" is political commentary with between a Republican and a Democrat guest, then a local show, then the Matt Drudge report.  I'll be well prepared for the water-cooler talk at the office tomorrow.

February 3, 2005 (11:38 pm) Lisa and I saw "Million Dollar Baby" last night, I thought it was outstanding.  I plan to unleash a review shortly.  Jef was kind enough to forward me a great story he wrote about his latest road trip, if he'll give me permission I'll post it.  I also have a new top ten challenge for Comrade Alex - Top Ten Scenarios to Comrade Alex's Ultimate Demise (or something like that).  Also, Comrade, you're move in the chess lounge.  I understand you do not have a good move available, but you still must move.

January 30, 2005 (10:44 pm) More progress today.  I've posted a review of "Life Aquatic" and a bit of news.  Feels like I did more.  I find the Lame Web Page Flash "Head Sounds" template has some bugs, specifically the pre-loading part doesn't work.  You will just see a blank area until the sounds have loaded.  I'm working on that.  Time to rub Lisa's back, she injured it putting on her underwear yesterday.

January 29, 2005 (11:32 pm) Finally, some progress! Check out movie reviews for a review of "Sideways", and go to www.jimdunlap.net for a whopping six new Backyard Zoos and another chapter of his novel, Paka.

Although I'm off to be now, I fully expect the updates to continue in the morning. Lisa is in Dallas visiting her family and Elizabeth and Quent's new baby, coincidentally also named Quent. She gets in around 12:30 so I'll have a few hours to sit here and churn away some material. In addition to much overdue movie reviews, I also want to work on the "Links" page and take it in a new direction. I'd also like to include Lame Web Page product and service endorsements, as wells as things we think should be avoided. A great example is my new Sketchers shoes - the most comfortable shoes I've ever worn that are nice enough to wear to work and on business trips. I also need to load up the Lame MP3 player with some new tunes from Charles. I also have some recent pictures I'd like to post. If only I had more time, heck I've been working on this all afternoon and evening. Like I said, there is a lot of work going on behind the scenes to streamline the update process. Hopefully, Lisa will learn to update the blog. I have a standard template for the movie review "heads" sounds (you can see it on Sideways). Again, we're constantly working to bring you the most Lame web experience possible.

January 27, 2005 (3:56 pm) - Off to Chicago for work, back on Saturday.  I expect to do some good updating then.

January 26, 2005 (12:15 am) - Not much to report here, just another work day.  There's a little behind the Lame Web Page action going on, specifically I'm going to do text-heavy pages (like Backyard Zoo articles or eventually this blog) straight in HTML, no more Frontpage.  Frontpage tends to put a ton of paragraph and font tags that are completely unnecessary.  For example, look at the source for the blog and you'll see each paragraph starts with the paragraph and font tags, when it's only needed at the top and the paragraphs can be separated by paragraph tags.  Paka chapter one has been converted.  I re-read as I edited and I'd forgotten how good a story it really is.  Official Lame Web Page author Jim Dunlap has given me six new Backyard Zoos and chapter seven of Paka, so you see I have some work to do.  Comrade Alex, it's your move and I continue to extend the challenge for a "Brad and Jen" top ten of your own.

January 23, 2005 - I'm starting to enjoy these Top Ten lists, although I find coming up with ten items a lot of work.  I approached Comrade Alex about perhaps trimming back to a top five list, and he is adamant that a top ten list should contain a minimum ten items.  Typical socialist inflexibility.  I've posted two new top ten lists in the news section.

Lisa and I enjoyed a couple of Frontera Fest performances this week (OK, not necessarily enjoyed).  We saw a "short fringe" performance last week at the Hyde Park Theater, and let's just say it didn't measure up to previous performances in terms of originality and innovation.  Today we saw "Forty dances in forty minutes", a performance where ten choreographers compose four one-minute dances each.  We saw this last year and really enjoyed it, we liked it this year as well.  Then we went to Hoovers for dinner for the first time, it was some good home cooking.

We got to baby sit Olivia for the first time last night, it was fun.  She's a fun kid, lots of smiles.  I was determined to teach her to say "sid and lisa dot net", but alas the 30 minutes of awake time with her wasn't enough.  We got a "Sssssss" and an "id" but not together.  We had a hard time putting her to sleep.  Cecelia had given us the signs, mainly thrashing around and getting grumpy.  On queue we placed her in the crib, she got up as expected, we tried again,  no luck.  We picked her up, checked her diaper, maybe she's not tired.  We sit with her, read a book, rock a little, no good.  What could it be?  Hunger!  Of course.  We get her milk and she sucks that down, then she really looked tired so we tried again.  Lisa ended up rocking her to sleep in a chair and then she went to sleep.  I sat in there with her because she was pretty congested (she had a cold recently) and finally she shifted and cleared her head as was breathing peacefully.

I wrote a review for "Sideways", I need to post it.  Part of our annual Lame Web Page Oscar extravaganza.  Problem is no one wants to see "The Aviator".  I have a lot to do but somehow it's already midnight and I have a long short work week ahead.  I'm off to Chicago Thursday night, hopefully there'll still be some snow on the ground.  I'll pack a jacket (I don't own a coat) this time.

January 21, 2005 - This is the point in the story where I write "I'm too tired to do an update" so my Mom can ask "why are you always so tired"?  Tonight, it's because it's after midnight.  That's why I'm tired, I tend to work on this stuff late.  That's also my excuse for all of the spelling errors.  I did manage to post a very rare "Sid Top Ten List", which is my opening salvo towards Comrade Alex in our Top Ten contest.  Check out the news.

January 20, 2005 - Just a quick post in the news.  I fell asleep at 8:00 on the floor while watching "World Poker Tour", which would normally bother me except tonight's was a rerun.  I have a challenge to Comrade Alex - Comrade, I'd really like a "Top Ten Bush Priorities for His Second Term".

January 19, 2005 - Yet another Comrade Alex Top Ten in the news section.  This one's hot off the press, being that it is covered under the "Lisa Lame Web Page Guarantee".  I'm going to have to ask the Lame Web Page lawyers to write some loopholes into that thing, because as I toil here this night (it's 11:30 Tuesday) Lisa's off in slumber land without me.  Some guarantee.

Comrade, I challenge you to a dual;  a Top Ten dual.  You - "Top Ten Reasons I Broke Up with Jennifer Aniston, by Brad Pitt".  Me - "Top Ten Reasons I Broke Up with Brad Pitt, by Jennifer Aniston".  Release the hounds!

January 18, 2005 - Comrade Alex proudly presents another Top Ten list.  This topic was prompted by a quote I read from George Lucas indicating he no longer plans to make commercially successful films.  I believe it went something like this: "Lucas admits the final part of the opening trilogy marks the end of an era in his career - and he now plans to stop making successful films. He says, 'I'm going to make movies nobody wants to see. I've earned the right to fail.'"  Remember, email your requests for Top Ten lists to comradealex@sidandlisa.net.  I've also posted a news story about "blogs" - technically you are reading one right this very moment.  I meet all of the qualifications except "affluent".

I posted another move to the chess duel, Comrade, I've put you in quite the pickle haven't I.  Our late leader Ronald Reagan would be proud.

I've created a template for the Lame Movie Review "heads sounds" that should increase Lame Movie Review production by 25.6% over the next six weeks.  Lisa and I are committed to reviewing all of the "Best Picture" Academy Award nominees, which means I'll have to sit through another Leo DiCrappio / Marty Scorsese film.  Recall what I thought about their last outing.  As always, the invitation is open for anyone to submit a Lame Movie Review, and I will post it.  Lisa says contributions will be posted within 24 hours, it's the new "Lisa Lame Web Page Guarantee".

January 15, 2005 - A modified Lame Web Page look, and check this out - a blast from the Lame Web Page past, here's what it looked like in 2001.  Like Virginia Slims, it's come a long way, baby!

January 13, 2005 - Yet another Top Ten list from Comrade Alex in the news.  He's been quite prolific as of late.  I'm too tired to do anything else tonight.  I owe Comrade Alex the next move in our chess match and Dad has given me another chapter of his novel and some Backyard Zoos.  This weekend should be pretty quiet, perhaps I'll get some Lame work accomplished.

January 10, 2005 - Yawn, time for bed.  I posted another hilarious Comrade Alex "Top Ten" in today's news.  I changed the "picturnators" to stop on a picture sooner to reduce some of the suspense.

January 9, 2005 - I updated a couple of Back Yard Zoo articles on www.jimdunlap.net, I have six more I'll do tomorrow.  It's late of course, so I'm off to bed.  Lisa has promised a review of "Garden State" and I'll do "Mean Girls" and "Sideways".  In the meantime, Charles offers his take on "Secret Ballot".  I'm having an issue with Mozilla's Firefox browser that it brings up an old, archived page even when the page has changed and I have to hit refresh to bring it up.  Try that if I've said something's new and you don't see it.

January 9, 2005 - Very early Sunday in fact.  We both really liked "Mean Girls".  I'll write a review.  We also saw "Life Aquatic" with Comrade Alex and Stacey, I was disappointed.  Again Comrade Alex admiring a concept and forgiving a poor film.  Speaking of Comrade Alex, he had the last move in the Red Corner chess match, my move will come today.

I bought a Legos "Technics" set on Ebay, and just broke it out - it's wonderful to have some fresh Legos, I have a bunch from my childhood but their so different now.  The Technics are more like the old ones than the theme sets out today.

Official Lame Web Page Mother and frequent reader Peggy asks why this is the 2006 edition instead of the 2005 edition.  Of course, it's because that's pretty Lame.  Also, it's so shiny and fresh it's definitely next year's model.  A whopping eight picturnators, what fun!

January 8, 2005 - Finally, you can expect some updates!  I've completed the 2006 edition of the Lame Web Page.  This should be it, who knows if it will work.  Email sid@sidandlisa.net if you run into any problems.  I estimate the new page is 27% more Lame than the previous version.  Lisa and I are going to watch "Mean Girls" and then I promise some updates.  I have pictures, movie reviews, Backyard Zoos, the next "Paka" chapter, oh so much to show you.

January 2, 2005 - Alas, yet another weekend coming to a close.  I'm off to Minnesota (it's in Canada, I think) for a "sales call" to the Mayo Clinic in Rochester.  I am extremely un-prepared.  I went up to work Saturday but no one was there.  I don't have a key to the temporary front door and I didn't feel like running from the side door to the alarm.  So I'm going to try to get to work around 6 and get everything together.  At least this time I've packed a coat.

Lisa and I saw "Meet the Fockers", and let me tell you, we felt like we'd been Focked.  Not good.  Lisa and I are committed to more movie reviews this year.  I have one from Charles I'll post when I return, promise.  I spent all day working on a new design for the new year, it's not quite done.  That's the problem, too much re-designing and not enough updating.  "People want new content!" I can hear Lisa saying.  How can I be expected to work in this environment, it's about 75 degree and humid as all get out.  I'm surprised it's not raining inside. I was due for some italics.  I also have numerous Back Yard Zoo articles to post on www.jimdunlap.net.

More soon, hang in there.

January 1, 2005 - Special 2:49 AM update: You must check out Lame News for Lisa's wonderful reflections on a year gone by.  Happy New Year everyone!
